Girls Lacrosse Defeats Incarnate World on April 4

On April 4, the varsity girls lacrosse team faced off against Incarnate World. They played at 4:15 on Incarnate’s field. It was the Varsity team’s first game, after having three games and a tournament cancelled due to weather and poor field conditions. FHN beat Incarnate 8-6, redeeming themselves from last season’s loss.

“Overall, I think we did good in the first half, but we could have done better as a whole and pushed ourselves more in the second,” said freshman and midfielder Heaven-lee Nichols.

From the beginning of the game, FHN had the lead. The score at halftime was 7-0. During the second half, FHN began making more mistakes, allowing Incarnate to score, but the girls were able to hold off Incarnate long enough to seal the victory.

“I think we need to work on sticking with it the whole game,” said sophomore and goalie Madeline DeGraw. “We kind of fell off at the end and started getting sloppy.”

The next game is on April 7 against Whitfield. The team plans to work on being more physical and playing consistently before the next game to avoid repeating the mistakes made against Incarnate.

“I think we have a chance to have a really good season,” said head coach Ryan Darks. “We have a good opportunity to go 500 if not better this season.”
